About
The Papyrus tablet is a new and innovative portable drawing device that allows users to experience the natural feeling of drawing with pen on paper electronically.

Current devices are mundane and rigid, but with the Papyrus tablet, user experiences a rich drawing sensation previously only attainable with expensive pens and paper. The papyrus tablet does this by mimicking the chosen tools and surfaces. This allows users to experience the intimate differences between pens, papers and other mediums!

The Papyrus tablet also provides various customizable features such as textures, colours and pen thickness. These options allow any budding artist or professional to freely sketch with a wide array of pens and colours.

All the tools an artist could ever need, right at their fingertips.

Needs Assessment

In today’s market, the introduction of the iPad has made tablet computing more wildly accepted than it has in the past. However, the origin of tablet technology lies in the art and design industry, where tablets were originally designed for artists to make full use of technology. Our team proposes to re-address the original client’s needs by designing a portable tablet with haptic tactile feedback. This device would provide users with the sensation of tactile hand drawing in a portable fashion.

Objectives

The following are the objectives that the project aims to achieve and are derived from the goal statement:
• To develop a system with haptic feedback that provides the same sensation as writing with pencil and paper
• To design a system that is lightweight, portable and affordable
• To create a prototype that will demonstrate the capabilities on the smallest size possible
